Q: Is there a minimum age to join the choir?
A: The minimum age is 18 and there is no maximum age. Currently our youngest member is 19 and the eldest is 81. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome.
Q: Can I pay as I go?
A: Unfortunately not. We are non-profit and keep costs as low as we can. We have fixed costs to cover so you must pay for a whole half term at a time in advance.
Q: When do you practice?
A: We practice every Wednesday (during school term time) from 6.30pm to 8pm. We mostly stick to the school term but will confirm the start and end date of each half term. We do have a break in the middle of the session for a chat and we take turns to bring some cakes/fruit to share.
Q: Are you affiliated with the Church?
A: No, we only rent space in the building.
Q: Do I need to be able to read music?
A: No, some of us can and some of us can’t. We learn the songs by ear and tracks are provided to practice in between rehearsals for those with the time.
Q: Do I have to take part in the performances?
A: We arrange a Christmas and end of Summer term performance to show our friends and family what we have been working on. We use this opportunity to raise money for charities. You are under no obligation to take part but once you do – you’ll be hooked!
Q: What do you sing?
A: We have an incredibly diverse repertoire that we hope includes something for everyone. We recently learnt Bohemian Rhapsody, Karma Chameleon, Handbags and Gladrags but this is interspersed throughout the term with different genres including folk songs and African rounds. We learn some traditional Christmas songs in the latter part of the year for our Christmas performance. Please check out our YouTube channel to see some of our performances: https://www.youtube.com/@bitterneparkcommunitychoir
